Course Introduction

ECE at Brunel is one of the largest disciplines in the university with over 40 full'time academic staff and extensive teaching and research portfolios. Despite its size, our department maintains a friendly community atmosphere between students and staff. Our recent National Student Survey (NSS) results consistently reflect the positive learning experience of our students and the high level of satisfaction with our academic provision. Developed in response to the needs of industry, our degree courses will give you advanced level knowledge and skills in the design of complex electronic, microelectronic and computer systems. Our teaching is research'led and we have strong links with the world of industry which benefit our students when it comes to placements and helpful contacts. The department has five research centres focusing on telecommunications, sensors and instrumentation, sustainable energy and systems, our research findings and expertise feeding directly back into the modules we teach. Brunel's geographical proximity to the highest concentration of the UK's information engineering and telecommunications industry ' in London and along the M4 corridor ' means our network of potential work placement contacts is second to none.

Course Modules

Level 1 Core: Digital systems and microprocessors; devices and circuits; level 1 electronic engineering workshop; problem solving and programming; electronic engineering mathematics; engineering science, systems and society. Level 2 Core: Communication; computer architecture and interfacing; digital systems design and reliability engineering; electronic systems; signals and systems; engineering group design project; management. Level 3: Optional Work placement.. (for thick'sandwich mode of study). Level 4 Core: Digital communications systems; multimedia digital signal processing; advanced digital systems; advanced design and electronic systems. Level 5 Core: Innovation, business and enterprise for engineers; individual project and project management. Options (choose four) Embedded systems engineering; advanced multimedia processing; intelligent signal processing; data communication; computer network; optical satellite and mobile communications; advanced digital communications; advanced mobile systems; radio and optical communication systems.
