Course Introduction

The programme provides an intensive course specifically tailored for computer science graduates or graduates of related subjects with a substantial amount of programming who are interested in pursuing a career in financial services. As well as gaining a broad knowledge of the subject, you acquire practical skills and have the opportunity to investigate certain areas of current research more deeply. The programme offers a single software development pathway in Java. For more experienced students there is the opportunity to carry out project work in other languages.

Course Modules

Compulsory modules include: Accounting and financial management; financial markets; final project. Option modules may include: Advances in data management; component based software development; fundamentals of concurrent systems; information retrieval and organisation; intelligent technologies; introduction to software engineering: tools and environments; portfolio theory; software design and programming.

Course Additional Entry

You should have a good 1st degree or MSc in computer science, with the syllabus containing a substantial amount of programming, preferably in an object'oriented language. Joint Honours computing graduates or graduates in related engineering and science disciplines may also be eligible, provided they have covered a substantial amount of programming, or have equivalent professional experience in the IT industry.If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub'tests.
