This course provides specialist psychotherapy training emphasising the challenges, innovations and re'interpretations of the therapeutic encounter; the programme will prepare students for advanced professional work in both private and institutional practice; successful completion will bring eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional bodies.
Year 1 modules include: Heidegger and existential psychotherapy; existence and therapy; the body, love and sexuality. Year 2 modules include: research methods within the existential paradigm; intersubjectivity and relatedness; critical psychopathology and existential therapy; language; ethics; student'led seminars communication.
Course Additional Entry
Students require: completion of either the taught components of the MA Psychotherapy and Counselling, or an equivalent Master's level professional training in psychotherapy, counselling or counselling psychology; a minimum of 100 client'contact hours in a formal clinical placement, and a minimum of two years' regular individual psychotherapy; applicants are required to demonstrate emotional maturity and an ability to be self'reflective, function effectively and ethically under pressure, and to manage conflict constructively; attendance at interview required before an unconditional offer can be made; fluency in English required (IELTS 7.0).
