SOAS is the only institution where Burmese is taught in the UK,and one of only a handful in Europe. BA Burmese and ' may be studied over three years, or over four years if the third year of study is spent studying in Burma. The degree is therefore a three' or four'year programme that strikes an exciting balance between the study of a Burmese language and the cultures of Burma and the South East Asian region.
