The course covers dynamical system modelling; control system design and analysis; providing a foundation for specialist studies in the control area, and for work in industrial control.
Modules include: (modern theory of linear control systems): control engineering; design of linear multivariable control systems; discrete'time systems and computer control; (non'linear systems): stability and control of non'linear systems; discrete'event systems; (mathematics and optimisation): mathematics for signals and systems; optimisation; (on'line control using optimisation): predictive control; (stochastic modelling and control): probability and stochastic processes; systems identification and adaptive control; estimation and fault detection; (modelling and control): modelling and control of multi'body mechanical systems; power system control, measurement and protection; (additional topics): topics in control systems.
Course Additional Entry
A high 1st Class (1st) Honours degree (75 per cent +) in electrical engineering or a related subject. All applicants whose 1st language is not English require: GCSE, IGCSE, GCE O'level or equivalent at grade C; or Cambridge certificate of proficiency in English (CPE) at grade C; or IELTS score of 7.0 with a score of 6.5 or better in the written and speaking section; or TOEFL paper minimum score of 610 (test of written English (TWE) of 4.5 or more); or TOEFL computer minimum score of 250 (TWE of 4.5 or more); or TOEFL internet minimum score of 100 overall, including a minimum of 24 in the written section and a minimum of 22 in the speaking section.
