Course Introduction

Course Modules

Year 1 language modules: English language 1 and English language in context; French language 1 and French language in context or French beginner (a1) and French elementary (a2); Spanish language 1 and Spanish language in context or Spanish beginner (a1) and Spanish elementary (a2). Content modules: introduction to English in the Anglophone world; approaches and methods in language teaching; introduction to France and the francophone world; introduction to the Spanish'speaking world; translation concepts and strategies; meaning in language. Year 2 pathway modules: English language 2; French language 2 or French for continuing beginners and French practice 2 (continuing beginners) Spanish language 2 or Spanish for continuing beginners and Spanish practice 2 (continuing beginners). Optional modules: aspects of translating and interpreting (French); aspects of translating and interpreting (Spanish); European cinema; computer'assisted translation tools; history and theory of translation; language in the media. Year 3: advanced English language or advanced French language or advanced Spanish language. Optional modules: professional translation (French); specialised translation (French); professional translation (Spanish); public sector interpreting (Spanish); media translation; consecutive interpreting; work'based learning; translation portfolio; national cinemas (France); semantics; language issues in multilingual settings.
