Course Introduction

This LCF course focuses on the very broad sector of the industry that produces clothing for specialist activities and sports lifestyle clothing. You will be encouraged to redefine how sportswear, including high performance, traditional and sports lux, is worn and perceived. You will explore how sport, science, new technologies, fashion trends, socio'political and cultural contexts influence creative ideas and will produce garments that fuse individual contemporary style and function. The course is designed with employment in the sportswear industry in mind, so you acquire the relevant professional communication and business skills, and undertake live projects set by industry. An optional placement year in the industry between the second and final year of the course allows you to make valuable contacts and build relationships for your future career. You will be based at Curtain Road in Shoreditch, on the edge of the City of London and very near to Hoxton.

Course Modules

Year 1: Introduction to study in higher education; product technologies; introduction to cultural and historical studies; product creativity and communication; product design and development. Year 2: Cultural and historical studies; developing your professional practice; research methods for product development; industry opportunity; industry project. Year 3: Professional practice (optional). Year 4: Concept development; product development reflective discourse; product design and realisation.
