Course Introduction

This programme is aimed at students who wish to develop their research interests and skills in photonics, this course offers the opportunity to undertake a major, individual, project and reporting the results in a full scientific report and presentation; it trains students: In appropriate research methods; to develop written and oral communication skills for both specialised and non'specialised audiences.

Course Modules

Modules include: imaging; optical communications physics / plasmonics and matamaterials; lasers; optical measurement and devices; laboratory work; self'study project; 4'month research project. Optional modules: advanced topics in nanophotonics; biomedical optics; laser optics; laser technology; non'linear optics; fibre technology; optical design; optical design laboratory; optical displays; optoelectronic components and devices; photonics structures.

Course Additional Entry

A 1st Class (1st) Honours degree in physics. Applicants with degrees in other scientific disciplines e.g. engineering, chemistry, mathematics may be considered.
