University of East London

Course Introduction

UEL photography students recently took part in a project developed by the National Portrait Gallery covering the lives of people around the Olympic site. This resulted in an exhibition of their work which was opened by the director of the NPG, Sandy Nairne. Many of the photographers involved in the NPG exhibition, 'Road To 2012', came out to UEL to work with our students. Last year (2012) UEL students won first prize in the Ilford black & white photography competition and took both runner'up places. UEL also won the best university prize. Canon Cameras allow UEL students to photograph at London Fashion Weekend. Harman Industries, makers of Ilford films and papers in association with Metro Imaging, arrange for 'master classes' in darkroom technique for UEL students.
