Course Introduction

This course is the 1st stage of a solicitor's professional training; it is an intensive, practical course designed to equip students with the law, procedure and legal skills needed in the 2nd stage of their training, in a training contract or in work'based learning.

Course Modules

Modules include: criminal and civil litigation; property law and practice; business law and practice; professional conduct and regulation; wills and administration of estates; legal skills (advocacy, interviewing and advising, drafting, practical legal research and writing); solicitors accounts; taxation. Optional modules include: advanced litigation/personal injury; commercial leases; employment law and practice; family law and practice; housing and residential landlord and tenant law; immigration law and practice.

Course Additional Entry

A qualifying law degree, usually 2.2 or above; or a Common Professional Examination or Graduate Diploma in Law pass, usually with an average of at least 50 per cent. Applicants also need to have met the Solicitors Regulation Authority's requirements for entry, i.e. enrol as a student member and have been granted confirmation of completion of the academic stage of legal education.
