Course Introduction

Course forms bridge to professional career; applicants should have a clear idea of their future aims (whether in opera, solo, chamber or orchestral work); emphasis is on performance and on catering for and monitoring individual needs; a range of studies is available to complement and support the principal study area; includes many and varied opportunities for performance; regular concerts and recitals; course is assessed on 2 core performances, 1 specialist performance and a professional portfolio.

Course Modules

The MA attracts a total of 180 credits, as follows: principal study (140 credits), divided between; individual lessons and studies (80 credits); faculty activity (60 credits); professional portfolio (40 credits).

Course Additional Entry

We would expect a performance standard at least equivalent to that of a recognised music diploma in your principal'study. You should normally be completing (or have completed) an undergraduate programme of musical study at the time of application. For the MA and MMus, to enrol you must possess a good Honours Bachelor degree (normally in music: level 6 in the UK's National Qualification Framework), otherwise an international qualification of an equivalent standard from a university or educational institution of university rank is required. You may verify the acceptability of your qualifications with the admissions officer.
