Course Introduction

At the centre of towns and cities is regeneration, it is the duty of planners to take into account the views of business and local communities. It is a broad area of work that can require many different skills and others the option of specialisation ' be it protecting the historical environment or urban design. BA (Hons) Urban and Environmental Planning is also accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).

Course Modules

Year 1: planning history and principles; planning for sustainability (includes field trip to Cornwall); law and development management; town planning as an art; society, space and planning; geographical information systems. Year 2: strategies, visions and design; planning, transport and mobility; regeneration and local planning (includes field trip to Manchester); development process and finance; policy evaluation and research; environmental management and climate change. Year 3: dissertation (double module: 40 credits); planning specialism project; strategic spatial planning; cities, representations and planning; planning law and policy.
