This LCF course is for students who want to be hair, make'up and prosthetic artists for performance, including theatre, film, music and television. You will learn the specialised design and craft skills required for the realisation of original hair, make'up and prosthetics designs, and you will explore the cultural and historical context of the subject and the interpretation of text to enhance your practical work. Performance involves a number of creative and specialised designers and makers, who work together with the director and performers. On this course you will work with students from the related disciplines of 3D effects and costume, and have the opportunity to do a short work placement in the industry and to complete several industry'facing projects within the course. You will be based in Lime Grove in Shepherd's Bush, just west of Holland Park and Notting Hill.
Year 1: Introduction to study in higher education; introduction to 3d (enhancing and distorting the performer); introduction to cultural and historical studies; changing the shape and texture of the actor's appearance; consolidation and collaboration. Year 2: Cultural and historical studies; character design and development; professional development; research methods for performance; creative collaboration. Year 3: Concept and design development; cultural and historical studies dissertation; final major project.
