Course Introduction

This is the only undergraduate course in the UK to include modules in systems thinking and risk management at BSc level, which gives graduates a significant advantage over those unfamiliar with these advanced concepts. This degree equips students with the skills to begin a career as a consultant or analyst with international management consultancies, banks and other global businesses. BSc (Hons) Management cover a broad range of business'specific subjects, equipping students with a distinctive toolkit of skills. Students can take a work placement or study abroad to widen their network of contacts and enhance their career prospects. Each year, BSc Management students secure placements with a variety of financial firms, business'to'business companies and consultancies, including Accenture, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, Microsoft, GlaxoSmithKline and Xerox. Students studying Business and Management can choose to spend a year abroad in highly ranked institutions such as the Chinese University of Hong Kong (ranked 1st in Asia), the National University of Singapore and the Technische Universit't M'nchen, Munich, Germany. Many graduates progress to rewarding careers with internationally renowned organisations in the City of London and worldwide.

Course Modules

Year 1 core modules: financial mathematics and business statistics; management of business functions; management science; the practice of management; systems thinking and action research. Elective modules ' choose 2 from: international business environment; introduction to business law; introduction to financial accounting for business; introduction to microeconomics; introduction to management accounting for business; introduction to macroeconomics; professional skills; the reflective practitioner. Year 2 core modules: business statistics 2; business modelling and simulation; operations management; systems thinking. Elective modules, students choose 4 from: business and industrial economics; branding and advertising; Chinese management; consumer behaviour; creativity, innovation and design; entrepreneurship theory and practice; European business culture; European studies; introduction to python; IT for business; management accounting for business; management of human resources in a global context; personal finance; principles of finance; principles of marketing; qualitative market research. Year 3 core modules: applied systems thinking; decision analysis and forecasting; corporate social responsibility or final year project; supply chain and logistics management. Elective modules choose 3 from: advanced strategic management; climate change & its impact on the world economy; contemporary topics in marketing; corporate finance; corporate governance; corporate social responsibility; emerging markets; European business seminar; financial management; international financial management; international human resource management; management of innovation and change; new product development; strategy for business; system dynamic modelling; virtual organisations.
