Course Introduction

This interdisciplinary degree brings together the disciplines of statistics and operational research with applications in economics and finance. It encourages a systematic approach to problem'solving and focuses on the collection, presentation and interpretation of data. It is suited to those working in the financial sector or for statistical careers in commerce, industry, medicine, transport, government and education. We offer Master's degrees in related subjects, including mathematics, statistics, economics and finance.

Course Modules

Modules in the first year introduce you to the main ideas of economics, and enhance the mathematical and computing capabilities you will need in the following years; in your final year, you will be able to specialise in one of the main subject areas. You take the following modules, plus an option module in statistics or economics in year 2, and 3 option modules in statistics or economics in year 4. Year 1: Algebra 1: techniques and applications; calculus 1: single variable; introduction to economics; year 2: Probability and statistics; calculus 2: multivariable and differential equations; option in statistics or economics; year 3: Intermediate microeconomics; intermediate macroeconomics; statistics: theory and practice; year 4: 3 options in statistics or economics.
