Course Introduction

Research ranges from the Victorian era to the present day with specialities in the history of government and politics, foreign affairs and war, gender, emotions, medicine and psychology.

Course Modules

Core modules: Studying modern and contemporary British history; history (approaches, methods, challenges); history in action; optional modules may include: anti'Semitism and the holocaust; church and clergy in late Medieval London (1350'1540); culture and identity in RENAISSANCE Italy; dancehalls, dictators and the dole; Islam is the solution (the history of modern Islamism); Hollywood and the 2nd World War; modern Jewish history and culture; modern girls (gender, culture and society in Britain c.1918'1979); race, resistance and decolonization: empire and global history in the 20th century; readings in global history; selfhood and enlightenment in the long 18th century; the American presidency; the history of cartography in Medieval Islam and Europe: Surat Al'Ard, Imago Mundi ; the holocaust and beyond: war and post'war Germany; the US'UK special relationship; Islam in medieval and early modern Iberia.

Course Additional Entry

An upper 2nd class honours undergraduate degree (or higher) in history or overseas equivalent. applications from mature students are welcomed.
