Course Introduction

This programme is designed to meet the needs of committed writers who are interested in exploring and exploiting their own possibilities as writers, and in critically examining their own writing; students examine relevant literary and cultural theory as well as the politics and practicalities of language and writing from the point of view of the writer; they have plenty of opportunities to engage with structure form and style in relation to both creative and life writing (both biography and autobiography); students also focus on the politics and legalities of publishing; a workshop in creative and life writing encourages students to experiment with and develop their individual interests in a variety of genres; while a seminar course will feature talks by visiting speakers; students also take an option course.

Course Additional Entry

1st degree of at least 2nd Class standard in a relevant discipline; graduates in an unrelated field may be considered subject to qualifying examination; submission of examples of creative or life writing required; those without a relevant degree may be accepted subject to interview and submission of a portfolio of published or unpublished writing.
