Course Introduction

The BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering course puts an emphasis on civil engineering design and practice. Compared to the BEng Civil Engineering, it is somewhat less theoretical/mathematical, and more practical and design'orientated. This course has the accreditation of the Engineering Council, carried out by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) on behalf of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, and the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation as fully satisfying the educational base for an Incorporated Engineer (IEng). The course will also prepare you for a creative, challenging and dynamic career, and one that delivers a high level of job satisfaction.

Course Modules

Year 1: design and practice; engineering mathematics and modelling; engineering principles; structures and surveying. Year 2: strength of materials; construction technology; design of structural elements; forensic engineering and conservation; geotechnics 1; integrated field studies project. Year 3: structural analysis and structural design; innovation and enterprise; geotechnics 2; urban engineering systems; project; environmental engineering.
