Course Introduction

The mathematics specialist pathway has a very practical focus. It enables students to teach mathematics up to key stage 3, mathematics to GCSE, and some aspects of A'level mathematics. The course also aims to develop professional skills to help students gain employment in a secondary school and continue with their professional development. It also provides students with a rigorous training in all aspects of being a secondary school teacher. 2/3 of course time is spent working in schools. The main emphasis is on planning work for pupils, planning for good discipline/control and developing skills as a teacher. Successful completion of this course leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests.

Course Additional Entry

A 2.2 Honours degree in a subject related to mathematics (at least 50 per cent of the degree content needs to be relevant to mathematics). GCSE (A'C): English language and mathematics; applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS score of 6.5.
