Course Introduction

St Mary's University has an incredibly strong reputation for Physical Education teaching and sports performance. The campus itself is greenly'rural, yet London'urban, located amongst many partnership organisations for students to access for their own work based development. The uniqueness of the course is displayed in the variety of sports industry modules options on offer, enabling students to choose several career pathways. The course highly regards innovative use of technology to enhance the student experience, particularly in relation to supporting development of students' teaching and coaching practice. St Mary's has established strong links with over 200 schools that form our teaching partnerships and provide a diverse range of teaching settings for our students to gain work placement experience. We also have strong links with a Premier League football club, where there are invaluable qualification and work'based learning opportunities. The course is further supported by a team of lecturers who have a wide range of expertise in academic and industry fields, national and Olympic/Paralympic sport arenas and professional expertise and experience in PE and sport, who make every effort to know their students by name, not by number.

Course Modules

Level 1: modules include: understanding research ' an introduction to applied university studies; practical and personal development ' pe and sport education through practical activities; introduction to physical activity and maturation ' physical development to be physically literate; physical literacy and sport education ' participation and promotion of physical literacy, sport and coaching. Level 2: skills for independent study ' research; community placement: sporting envoy; teaching and learning: physical education; adapted physical education and sport; applied physical literacy; physical and health behaviour; physical development for physical literacy; games literacy 1; legislation and leadership in sport; social issues in physical and sport education; teaching and learning: primary physical education. Level 3: major independent study; research paper; work based learning; PE: curriculum, teaching and learning; teaching and learning: 14 ' 19 pathways; games literacy 2; physical literacy and physical activity for older adults; sport education and the young person; global studies in PE and sport; projects and initiatives in PE and sport; value and ethics in sport and physical education.
