This LCF course prepares you for a career in the highly competitive womenswear sector of the fashion industry by ensuring that you learn a combination of creative, technical, intellectual and communication skills. You will need a strong work ethic, and must be energetic, focussed and highly motivated. The course considers market levels, from high street to designer, through a range of projects. The short work placement will give you valuable experience and contacts for your future career. You may also enter national and international design competitions and take part in collaborations across the College on specific external projects. You will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to respond creatively to any womenswear design brief through the development of your original identity, utilising your design direction and the craft and technical skills that you will acquire. You will be based at Curtain Road in Shoreditch, on the edge of the City of London and very near to Hoxton.
Year 1: Introduction to study in higher education; research and design process; introduction to cultural and historical studies; techniques of making; introduction to industry practice. Year 2: Cultural and historical studies option; professional product development; research methods; aesthetics and identity; work experience and professional studies. Year 3: Design synthesis; contextualising your practice; final major project.
