Course Introduction

Research areas include: Greek studies: Homer, lyric poetry, drama, ancient literary criticism, ancient philosophy from beginning to 6th century AD, Alexandrian poetry, Ptolemaic Egypt, literature and documentary papyrology, late Greek and Byzantine literature, Greek palaeography; Latin studies: Roman comedy and its origins in Greek new comedy, Cicero, Roman satire and elegy, late Republican and Augustan poetry especially Virgil, Silver Age poetry and prose, Roman historical writings, use of computers in textual and stylistic analysis, Roman technical writers especially military writers and the Elder Pliny, late and medieval Latin, Latin palaeography and epigraphy.

Course Additional Entry

A UK Master's degree in a relevant discipline, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Students whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 7.0 or equivalent (with minimum 6.0 in each component).
