Goldsmiths, University of London

Course Introduction

In the autumn term the emphasis is on getting to know the different parts of the school mathematics curriculum and possible teaching approaches. Students review their mathematics experience, identify any gaps and begin to do something about them. They look at the possibilities of using information technology in teaching mathematics, and explore different approaches to assessing pupils. An important feature of the term is developing skills in posing questions, and this is followed through in the 1st assignment, which is built around pupils working in an investigative manner. Students learn about whole'school issues as well as mathematics teaching, and are expected to contribute to the pastoral life of the school.

Course Additional Entry

An undergraduate or postgraduate degree at least 50 per cent of content should be in the proposed teaching subject; GCSE grade C or above in English language and mathematics; an enhanced disclosure certificate from the Government's Criminal Records Bureau (CRB); an occupational health questionnaire.
