Course Introduction

The programme provides students with research into infection and immunity and how it translates into the patient clinic, offering the latest developments in molecular diagnosis, therapeutics and patient management; students gain a grounding in the research methods and techniques used to study infectious disease and the immunology of the host.

Course Modules

Core modules include: laboratory introduction to basic bacteriology; molecular virology; immunity in health and disease; epidemiology; compulsory module: experimental design and research methods in medical microbiology. Optional modules include: microbial pathogenesis; tropical microbiology; infection and immunodeficiency in children; frontiers in therapeutics development in infection and immunity; advanced virology; HIV frontiers from research to clinic; immunological basis of disease; biofilms in health and disease; infectious diseases epidemology and global health policy; introduction and principles of medical mycology.

Course Additional Entry

A minimum of an upper 2nd Class Honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject from a recognised university. Applicants not meeting this standard may be considered if they have significant relevant experience.
