Course Introduction

This course emphasises the continuing nature of planning responsibilities and focuses on the everyday use of places and spaces; initial modules contextualise ideas of urban design and its evolution; the core of the course is project work on sites where there are current urban design issues.

Course Modules

Modules include: Planning history and theory; urban design (the heart of planning); urban design project; sustainable places (with EU field study visit); everyday life (place and performance); planning in London; dissertation.

Course Additional Entry

Typical applicants are either planning graduates who want to refocus or refresh their specialist skills and knowledge; or from other built environment professions who want to branch out into the all encompassing area of urban design but do not want/or already have the shape shifting skills of architectural design. Applicants with Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) accredited postgraduate awards may seek accredited prior learning exemptions for some units.
