Study across range of French and Francophone language and literature from the Middle Ages to today in the heart of London. This programme includes Film Studies modules which provide conceptual tools to understand how society is mediated by cinematic and electronic images.
Year 1 examples: Core French language; introduction to French literature (compulsory); introduction to film studies (forms); introduction to film studies (contexts). Year 2 examples: The French novel since 1700; the idea of France; modernity and the city; modern French history; Asian popular cinemas; cinema and spectatorship; film authorship. Year 3: Year abroad. Year 4 examples: The stylistics of translation; medieval occitan literature; representation and identity in film; stardom and performance; third cinema and beyond.
