Course Introduction

Students develop new perspectives on education through a process of reasoned critical reflection; they are encouraged to apply their developing understanding of educational practices and issues in their own institution and elsewhere; all sessions run in the evenings to accommodate professional teachers and educators with substantial existing commitments and workloads; a postgraduate certificate may be awarded if a student exits after completing 2 modules (1/3 of the programme) or a postgraduate diploma if 4 modules have been completed (2/3 of the programme).

Course Modules

Optional modules include: bilingualism and biculturalism in education; children's literature and cultural diversity; citizenship education in contemporary society; contemporary art, identity and education (in association with Tate Modern); culture, pedagogy and the curriculum; diaspora, race, culture and education; early childhood for a diverse society; illuminating cultures (in association with Tate Britain); masculinities, femininities and identities in education; multilingualism and literacy learning; multilingual pedagogies; personalisation, emotional literacy and every child matters; teaching language in multilingual contexts; visual culture and education.

Course Additional Entry

1st degree of at least 2nd Class standard in a relevant discipline; degree in an unrelated field also considered subject to qualifying examination.
