This MSci combines a broad'based training in mathematics with highly practical courses from UCL's Department of Management Science and Innovation, which will be of direct use to those seeking a career in management. It offers an additional year of study on top of the equivalent BSc, during which students have the opportunity to specialise further by taking more advanced courses, and undertaking a major project. No previous knowledge of management studies is required.
Years 1 and 2: 6 courses each year give a thorough grounding in pure mathematics and mathematical methods, following the same courses as single'subject mathematics students; in place of applied mathematics, students take 2 courses in management studies each year (see below). Years 3 and 4: Range of options both in mathematics and management studies. Management studies courses: Year 1: Communication and behaviour in organisations; foundations of management. Year 2: Management information and control; business in a competitive environment. Year 3: 2 courses from: project management; the marketing process; law for managers; project finance; the business plan; high'tech business; new ventures business; decision and risk.
