Study across whole range of French and Francophone language, literature, culture and thought from the Middle Ages to today. The degree is based in central London and includes a year of study abroad. After first year of the degree programme you may specialise in areas of most interest to you.
Year 1 examples: Core French language; introduction to French literature (compulsory); French narrative texts (an introduction); subjects and selves (an introduction to French thought). Year 2 examples: Core French language; the practice of translation (compulsory); death and desire (love in French literature before 1700); writing the self since 1700 in French literature; French poetry since 1800. Year 3 examples: Year in French'speaking country. Year 4 examples: The stylistics of translation; medieval occitan literature; the debate about women in the middle ages; 16th'century encounters with the new world; the literary perception of the Honn'te Homme.
