This course runs in partnership with the apprenticeship schemes of the Royal Opera House and the National Theatre; training covers how to interpret designs, estimate materials and time, cost and budget a project and provides skills required to take on role of scenic artist on Academy's public productions working with professional directors and designers; in final term project work is exhibited in RADA's GBS Theatre giving opportunity to talk about it with invited group of industry contacts..
Training includes: Scenic interpretation and sampling; life drawing; spray techniques; scenic drawing; texture; woodgraining; marbling; light and shadows; trompe l'oeil; perspective drawing; principles of geometry; orders of architecture; scenic carving using polystyrene; clothwork including architectural and portrait; sign'writing; up to 6 weeks professional attachment with company or practitioner.

Preferably 1st degree or other qualification in art or relevant subject or previous practical experience.
