Course Introduction

This course enables students to develop the professional practice skills needed to work in professional education and training in social work and social care. These include: educating, mentoring, supporting, assessing and managing others; team work and interprofessional practice and leaderships skills. The course puts a strong emphasis on developing critical appraisal of research evidence and exploring ethical frameworks. The course has both a national and international focus. Students learn about latest developments and research in social work and social care education around the world and the global agenda for social work. The course includes an option module on international social work which has the opportunity to undertake a short international learning experience.

Course Modules

Modules include: Practice education stage 1; practice education stage 2; planning and delivery of training; supervision of professional practice mentoring, coaching and advanced assessment of professional practice; psychology of teaching and learning international social work and social work education; leadership, management and decision making; postgraduate certificate in teaching and learning in higher education.

Course Additional Entry

A 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree, or Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant subject and a relevant professional qualification; or a professional qualification in social work or related profession and substantial current or recent experience; applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS of 7.0.
