Course Introduction

The course provides an understanding of the movement of people and goods, and of techniques for analysing transport problems and evaluating measures for resolving them; prepares students for work in the fields of planning, engineering, operations, policy and research.

Course Modules

Modules include: advanced transport modelling; air traffic management; asset management, project planning and maintenance; design of accessible transport systems; design of roads, rail, bridges, tunnels and embankments; freight transport; highway engineering; intelligent transport systems; ports and maritime transport; public transport; quantitative methods; quantitative techniques for transport engineering and planning; road traffic theory and its application; special project; transport and its context; transport and the environment; transport demand and its modelling; transport economics; transport engineering and operations; transport policy; transport safety; understanding and modelling travel behaviour; urban street planning and design; business management.

Course Additional Entry

2.1 Honours degree in a relevant subject (particularly in subjects such as civil engineering, as well as other branches of engineering, natural sciences, earth sciences and other numerate disciplines). Applicants with relevant industrial and professional experience may also be considered. All applicants whose 1st language is not English require: GCSE, IGCSE, GCE O'level or equivalent at grade C; or Cambridge certificate of proficiency in English (CPE) at grade C; or IELTS score of 7.0 with a score of 6.5 or better in the written and speaking section; or TOEFL paper minimum score of 610 (test of written English (TWE) of 4.5 or more); or TOEFL computer minimum score of 250 (TWE of 4.5 or more); or TOEFL internet minimum score of 100 overall, including a minimum of 24 in the written section and a minimum of 22 in the speaking section.
