Course Introduction

This BA, taught in conjunction with UCL's School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES), combines study of the languages and culture of Scandinavia with a wide range of optional courses in the history of the Nordic and Baltic regions. Year three is spent in a Scandinavian country.

Course Modules

Year 1: Seminars in history; modern historiography; world histories; history of Eastern Europe since 1856; plus either a language or non'history option chosen from a wide variety of UCL courses. Year 2: 1 specialist history paper chosen from a large set offered by SSEES, UCL or a University of London college; further courses from SSEES history plus a language or non'history option chosen from a wide variety of UCL courses. Year 3: Spent abroad at a university in Scandinavia. Final year: 1 specialist history paper, with compulsory dissertations, chosen from those offered by SSEES, UCL or a University of London college, plus additional courses in history or language.
