Course Introduction

Romanian is a Romance language spoken not only in Romania, but also in the Republic of Moldova, and in parts of the former Yugoslavia and Hungary. This programme offers the opportunity to gain excellent language skills and knowledge of Romanian literature, history and culture, preparing you for a wide variety of careers.

Course Modules

Year one: compulsory courses: Romanian language level 1; introduction to East European literatures in translation. Optional courses: cinema in eastern Europe; culture in Eastern Europe: anthropological approaches; language and society; linguistics and verbal art: forms of content; linguistics and verbal art: forms of expression; vampires, society and culture: Transylvania and beyond. Year two: compulsory courses: Romanian language level 2a ' comprehension; Romanian language level 2b ' production; Romanian literature 1. Optional courses: cinema in eastern Europe; culture in Eastern Europe: anthropological approaches; language and society; linguistics and verbal art: forms of content; linguistics and verbal art: forms of expression; vampires, society and culture: Transylvania and beyond. Year three: year abroad. Final year: compulsory courses: Romanian language level 3a ' comprehension; Romanian language level 3b ' production; Romanian literature 2. Optional courses: cinema in eastern Europe; culture in eastern Europe: anthropological approaches; language and society; linguistics and verbal art: forms of content; linguistics and verbal art: forms of expression; vampires, society and culture: Transylvania and beyond.
