Course Introduction

This LCF applied science course is designed for students who want a career within the cosmetic, toiletry and perfumery industries. You will acquire the professional knowledge and critical and evaluative skills to function as a professional scientist. You will learn about the various disciplines within cosmetic science and the organisation and function of the cosmetic, toiletry and perfumery industries. The course is an integrated MSc, with a BSc exit point, and an optional placement year in industry in the third year of the course. This gives you the chance to start as an undergraduate and leave with a Masters qualification. Industry supporters include Procter and Gamble, The Body Shop, L'Oreal, Boots, Unilever, and Molton Brown. The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association, the industry trade body, champions the course and provides generous bursaries for the two best'performing students in each year. You will be based at John Prince's Street at Oxford Circus.

Course Modules

Year 1: Introduction to study in higher education; scientific principles; marketing with perfumery; formulation principles; formulation practice. Year 2: Packaging development and technology; formulation and legislation; research methods in marketing and quality management; formulation and evaluation; hair care formulation and evaluation. Year 3/4: Product development and claim support; production and distribution management; product launch project. Final year: Strategic management; advanced cosmetic science; project for cosmetic science.
