Course Introduction

The programme aims to facilitate graduates to gain knowledge and understanding and application of social work knowledge which will be enhanced and complemented by the students' practice placements to enable them to work with and support families and individuals who have complex needs; a key theme of the programme is to develop and enhance students' ability to critically analyse the values which underpin social work such as social justice, equality and fairness; additionally, students will develop understanding of social policy and current social work legislation and practice skills with the aim of developing critically reflective practitioners who can demonstrate, excellent communication skills, creativity and emotional resilience to deal with the complexities of the social work task.

Course Additional Entry

A UK recognised first class Honours degree or 2:1 preferably in the social sciences; applicants with a high 2:2 degree may be considered and this should be evidenced in the application form; students must also be eligible to apply for a bursary; applicants need to have substantial experience in social care in either a voluntary or work capacity and demonstrate the motivation, commitment and suitability to enter social work; a CRB and health check will also be required.
