Year 1: Aspects of contemporary education; children as learners; effective learning environments; language and learning in education; concepts of childhood; introduction to child development; the child, family and society; development of the embryo and foetus. Year 2: Special educational needs; equity and education; early years education or later years; childhood autonomy and rights; research methodology; child development: developing minds; child development: social world of the child. Final year: Enquiry project; early years development or later years; child and adolescent development: contemporary issues; partnership in promotion of child development; transition into the adult world; option chosen from: child and adolescent mental health, recognising children at risk or contemporary parenting.
