Course Introduction

The course concentrates on the principles that lie behind the criminal justice system and the need to place those principles in a critical and comparative context.

Course Modules

Modules include: Criminal procedure: rules and practice; criminal evidence: exclusion and inclusion; sentencing: justice and difference; advocacy in the criminal trial; victims and vulnerable witnesses; psychology, advocacy and evidence; court of appeal: criminal practice and procedure; international criminal law: crimes, courts and trials; sentencing: culpability and harm; advocacy: trial stories; criminal procedure: theory and reality; criminal evidence and proof; ethics for the legal practitioner.

Course Additional Entry

A degree in law (normally Upper 2nd Class Honours); or an appropriate professional qualification and experience; professional experience (for example, substantial experience as a police officer); applicants whose native language is not English require an IELTS score of 7 with a minimum of 6 in each area or equivalent.
